Use: 1 part NEKTON-Drosophila-Breeding concentrate is mixed with 1.5 - 2 parts warm water by stirring.The vinegar or fruit fly (drosophila) grow, depending on species or breed, up to 3.5 cm long and approx. 1 mm thick. The male has a black end segment, the female a brown end segment. Approximately the same-sized maggots hatch from the approx. 0.55 mm long and 0.2 mm wide white eggs, which grow to approx. 5 mm long after three molts. Breeding with NEKTON-Drosophila-Breeding concentrate is very easy and does not require much effort. A new formula is prepared without cooking. Use: 1 part NEKTON-Drosophila-Zuchtkonzentrat is mixed or stirred briefly with 1.5 - 2 parts warm water (22-25 °C) - and then the breeding paste is ready. It couldn't get easier than this! No complex cooking, no odors when preparing the paste.Adding a few drops of vinegar (fruit vinegar) accelerates breeding. The thickness of the paste can be controlled by adding water. The prepared paste will liquefy again after a few days. This is intended to provide optimal living conditions for the maggots.The room temperature for breeding should be approx. 22-25 °C. Egg deposition by the fruit flies ceases at higher temperatures.

The body fluid in reptiles consists mainly of water and certain salts - electrolytes. Electrolytes are minerals that are electrically charged once they are dissolved in a liquid. The most important electrolytes in the body include the positively charged cations sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, as well as the negatively charged anions chloride, bicarbonate, and phosphate.
These electrolytes aid in the regeneration of nerve and muscle function and help maintain acid-base balance and water balance. Many reptiles suffer from chronic dehydration, caused by dry living conditions, inadequate drinking, low fluid intake, or illness-related fluid losses due to diarrhea or blood loss. Various types of dehydration lead to the loss of not only water but also electrolytes.
Significant water and electrolyte losses should be quickly replenished, as imbalances in the body‘s water and electrolyte balance can lead to health problems. Calcium is very important not only for eggshell and bone formation, but also for other vital processes (such as muscle contractions). The calcium content in the feed is usually very low. The food insects in particular lead to a calcium deficiency if they are not supplemented. Since the animals also take up additional calcium in the wild, it must also be offered in terrarium. Females and growing animals in particular have a higher calcium requirement.In order for the body to be able to utilize calcium, reptiles and amphibians need vitamin D. There is no need to provide supplemental vitamin D through the food if the animal is offered the right amount and quality of UVB radiation. If healthy animals are sufficiently exposed to UVB radiation, there is usually no vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin precursors ingested with food (these are found primarily in plants, muscle and adipose tissue of animals) are converted under the action of sunlight (or UVB radiation) and heat in the skin into a precursor of vitamin D3 and finally in the kidney tissue into the active form of vitamin D3.The required amount of UVB radiation (intensity, lighting duration) depends on the animal species. Desert-dwelling species, for example, require much higher levels of UVB radiation.
